I completed a full south-to-north traverse of Aruba, starting at Sero Colorado, the southeastern tip of the island, and finishing at the California Lighthouse in the far north. The route took me across neighborhoods, sandy sots, rocky desert, volcanic hills, and wind-whipped coastline—a true showcase of Aruba.
My older sister rode a bike ahead of me at times and behind me at others, offering moral support but no physical aid or supplies. It was a gift having her out there—especially in the lonelier stretches—but I remained fully self-supported.
The heat and exposure were intense, and I completely underestimated the humidity. Still, the views were stunning—big skies, crashing surf, and wide open spaces that made you feel small in the best way. I got a little turned around in the final kilometers, and the lighthouse in the distance felt like a mirage I’d never quite reach. At one point, I stopped and asked a man washing his truck to spray me down with water. He didn’t hesitate—best impromptu cool-down of my life.
Did you resupply with food, and if so, how?
No resupply. I carried everything I needed from the start—2.5 liters of water, Vespa, fruit bars, and Frog Fuel.
