The High Country Pathway is such a beautiful and remote part of Michigan, and this effort reminded me exactly why I love chasing these kinds of adventures. The scenery was incredible, but the trail made sure every mile had to be earned.

From the start, the day was filled with challenges. Flooded trails slowed progress and forced constant route decisions. Ticks seemed to be everywhere, the gnats never let up, and water resupply options were few and far between. It felt like there was always something demanding attention, whether it was the terrain, the conditions, or simply managing the next problem before it became a bigger one.

I'm not going to get into all of the issues I encountered throughout the day, but there were plenty of moments where things could have gone sideways. Looking back, the thing I'm most proud of isn't the finishing time, it's how I handled the adversity. In the past, I might have let setbacks affect my mindset. This time, I stayed composed, adapted, and kept moving forward. No matter what came up, I focused on solving the problem in front of me and continuing down the trail.

The solitude was another memorable part of the experience. Aside from three mountain bikers, I had the entire trail to myself. For hour after hour it was just me, the forest, and the challenge ahead. There is something special about being completely immersed in a place like that, where your only job is to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Being out there at night under a full moon made this FKT even more memorable. As challenging as the day was, there were moments when the moonlight filtering through the trees made everything feel almost surreal.

It certainly wasn't a flawless effort. Between three dirt naps, four bonus miles, and everything else the trail threw at me, there were plenty of opportunities for the day to get away from me. Somehow, despite all of that, I still managed to take 3 hours off the previous FKT. This was one of those adventures that tested me physically, mentally, and emotionally. It was frustrating at times, exhausting at times, and incredibly rewarding from start to finish. Days like this are rarely comfortable, but they're the ones that stay with you the longest. I'm grateful for the experience, proud of how I responded when things got difficult, and incredibly glad I took on the challenge.
