On Sunday November 10th 2024, I ran the Tawas Bay Pathway & Alabaster Arboretum unsupported FKT out and back which was a little over 28 miles. This was a worthwhile challenge on a mostly flat asphalt bike path and sidewalk. This FKT offers a scenic course located in the heart of the Michigan Great Lakes region. I made sure to have enough water on me which I carried in my running vest. I consumed 10 gels, 2 granola bars, 1 apple and 1 banana. Once I arrived at the Tawas Point Lighthouse, I filled up my flasks and got ready to run the 14 miles back to my car.

The Tawas Bay Pathway offers a combination of natural, rustic trails, and paved sections, making it accessible to a range of runners and hikers. The route features undulating terrain, with moderate elevation changes, that showcases Michigan’s diverse flora and fauna. The Alabaster Arboretum is a key highlight, where participants will enjoy an immersive experience in the region's rich ecological environment. The forested areas and serene surroundings provide a peaceful yet invigorating atmosphere for runners seeking a natural, beautiful route.

Whether you're aiming to set a personal best or push your limits to establish a new FKT, the Tawas Bay Pathway & Alabaster Arboretum offers a unique and rewarding challenge in a pristine Michigan setting. I am grateful to Kathryn for creating this route in such a beautiful area in northern Michigan. I highly recommend it and I'm hoping more people attempt the out and back FKT. Under 4 hours is very doable.
