Mike Foote & I had perfect weather for the traverse. The snow crossings were soft enough to justify not having an ice axe. However, we questioned not having helmets after a close call with rockfall below Overcoat Peak.  Mike heard the rocks bouncing above us and alerted me so we both had a second to jump and hide behind cover while watermelon-sized rocks whizzed past–scary!

There was enough meltwater on the route that I only carried one 500ml soft flask with a filter cap. The longest stretch without running water was either La Bohn Gap to the backside of Mt. Hinman; or the section between Lynch Glacier to Peggy's Pond.

It was hot when we got to Peggy's Pond so I jumped in for a quick swim. We both were tired and jogged the final miles to the finish.

Two days prior, I had a significant asthma attack during an easy run. Thankfully, I keep (an expired) inhaler in my truck just in case. The sweet gift of breathing unrestricted air made this run with Mike Foot even more special.
