I partly designed this route as an excuse to ride the REM for the first time, which I took with great excitement from downtown to the start line at Deux-Montagnes, arriving about midday. It was a cold winter day, somewhere around -15C, but was sunny for the first half and got cloudy and grey as the afternoon went on. There were some very minor navigation challenges but otherwise the route was easy to follow, and aside from a stretch in Laval that required running on the road due to the snow, there were always sidewalks, bike paths and trails available. The primary challenge was managing the cold and frozen water bottles. It was fully unsupported, although of course there are plenty of options for refuelling or warming up en route. This was not a speed attempt by any means, it was a fun long run and a chance to see some new neighbourhoods and a chapeau tip to Montreal's latest infrastructure project. It was dark when I arrived at Brossard station, where the REM was severely delayed naturellement but got me home eventually!
