I set out to run Stone Mountain on a short visit to the PNW. Starting at 4:30pm in the afternoon I encountered hot and humid conditions at the base but soon ascended into more pleasant evening temperatures at elevation. The route delivered on its promises: lots of steep ascent, interspersed with runnable single track, topped off by a mostly off-trail scramble and little 4-5th class section at the very top. I summited in just under 3hrs and found the descent almost more challenging than the climb as many parts are not runnable on the down -- but I was able to take about 20 minutes off the previously established time. Awesome PNW micro adventure!
