The Virgin River Rim Trail from Strawberry Point to Woods Ranch via Cascade Falls. 50km of goodness with amazing single track trail, views for days, and very few other people.
I feel blessed to have this place in my backyard. This past Saturday (Aug 1), I set out to break the @fastestknowntime on it - and succeeded, taking the women’s FKT from 9hrs 11mins down to 8hrs 25mins.
I had hoped to snatch the men’s speed record, too, at 7hrs 39mins... but on limited training and close to no acclimatization I fell short of my ‘A’ goal. I had been going for just under 7.5hrs when I crested the final climb of the course and had nothing but 3.5 miles of mellow downhill ahead of me - but at that point the men’s record was already out of reach, so I decided to save my legs and walk it in.
This trail is world class - it’s amazing to me that it’s still as obscure as it is. Bryce like terrain in spots, and views of Zion in the distance... all at 9,000ft plus of elevation, and easy (2WD) dirt road access along the course. If you’re near Kanab/Zion/Bryce/StGeorge - this is a trail to check out, either as a hike or a run or a mountain bike. You won’t regret it.
You weren't too far off my record. That trail was much harder than I anticipated and therefore my time was slower than I would have liked. Congratulations on the FKT.
