Just stoked. With HURT 100 just 8 weeks away, I knew there was no better way to test my Hawaii fitness than to try and reduce the unsupported Kalalau Trail record. Trail was in super great shape. It's been dry here for at least 4 days and I was hoping it would be as good as I thought it might be. Dry trails here means the mud was slimy, but not too slick. Loved every minute and am proud of this effort.
I need to emphasize the seriousness of the route. It's not to be taken lightly. You need to get an overnight permit and bring essentials if you get stuck and need to stay out on the trail longer than planned. I was checked by the ranger for my pass and ID. She was really worried about people running in here who may be in over their heads. If you're ever interested in trying this, reach out to those who've gone before for tips, strategies etc.
