Deep into the heart of Kauai, this sacred spot is at the base of Mount Waiʻaleʻale. The 4.7-ish mile trail from the parking lot just past the one lane bridge is a great warm-up and really the last time you’ll get to run once you hop on the main trail that goes up to Blue Hole Falls and then out to the weeping wall. 5 miles in and beyond the trail is rugged, socked in with debris, mud and countless river crossings where, at times you’re waist deep in the Wailua River.
This was an adventure like none I’ve ever been on before, and tested every part of why I love being outdoors and active. at times I felt like I was doing parkour moves on top of needing to have some CrossFit training. I am beat up, but my heart is full. Thrilled to submit the first female FKT attempt for this route. Fair warning to all those who make an attempt: scout out as much as you can first, go humbly into this sacred space, knowing what it means for all those who call this place home.
