Report

I started at Roppen train station at 12 am carrying all my gear and nutrition in a 15L pack. On the first half of the course I was much faster than I had anticipated despite some lows during the night. Throughout the night it was a lot warmer than I had feared and prepared for. Long tight, wind pants, fleece hoodie and wind jacket acted as dead weight in my pack all day. I did need my backup headlamp battery, gloves and buff though. The full moon made for a pretty special scenery. I got water from streams since all huts besides Rüsselsheimer Hütte had already been closed due to the bad weather the week before. Maybe that was the reason why I didn't encounter a single person all day/night. During the last part from Rüsselsheimer to the finish I suffered some dehydration due to the lack of water sources and the sun and altitude exposure. That made the already very challenging segment of the Mainzer Höhenweg even harder for me.

Notes on my style: I carried everything I needed (and everything I didn't need) from start to finish. My girlfriend was there to support me on Mainzer Höhenweg, I got a LemonSoda and a cereal bar there and she accompanied me for a few minutes as well. Hence it was supported effort. If I were to do it again, I would either want to get full aid at multiple locations or go fully unsupported.

P.S.: At one point during the night I witnessed a pretty serious rockslide a few hundert meters next to me. The size of which I couldn't judge in the dark but a cloud of dust restricted visibility drastically for the next 15 minutes or so. What I want to say is be aware of your surroundings in alpine terrain and have someone know where you are.
