First attempt at a FKT! Mine and my Grandma's birthday, and she lives in Williamstown, so this was the perfect way to celebrate and also visit her. I'm new to trail running, but have really been enjoying running up a few mountains in the absence of racing.
Started at the Cheshire Community Center, ascended Greylock really well, but unfortunately I didn't linger long. It was quite wet after two days of rain, and I knew the descent would be the most challenging part for me. Felt like I banked plenty of time on the way up, so tried to take it cautiously down, but still had a bit of a tumble that slowed me down some. Honestly it hurts more now hours later than it did in the moment.
Ordered a hydration pack for the run, but didn't arrive in time, so I carried a small water bottle. Not quite enough fluid for the heat, but it was cooler near the summit and the trail was almost all shaded, so not a huge deal.
If anybody has tips for better downhill mountain running I'll take them. It was a unique challenge for me, and quite outside my comfort zone. Might look for more of these FKTs to have a go at!
