I started out just after 6 am from the entrance gate at the end of old reedy creek rd. I ubered from ebenezer church rd with a plan to finish near the car. It was just me running alone. It was a bit too cold for my shorts and t shirt but warmed up after a couple hours. Overall Weather was fantastic 38 degrees at the start warming up to near 60 at end. It was hard to want to drink much during the early cold start but I managed to. I was using tailwind energy in my filtered water bottles and had some ziplock bags to refill them in my flipbelt. I carried everything in my flip belt: phone, charger, tailwind refills and 3 clif bars. I refilled my bottles at a hose on s turkey trail, the dog spicket at big lake and another hose at multi use parking lot. I starting nibbling on my first cliff bar about 3 hours in and finished 2 of them by the end. I got lost on company mill trail and went in a loop back to the start and had to restart the trail there a second time. Other than that there were only a couple other minor mis navigations. I have ran every trail in umstead before and have gotten lost. Thats probably the biggest challenge to this FKT. I added the trail that goes up to the end of the picnit tables to the left of company mill trail (by accident...haha) I also completed the trail down to the end of the big lake by potts branch same as previous FKT holder. I did not taper for my attempt I just had a day off work and decided to go for it. I was going to go to mountains and run but too cold still up there. I look forward to coming back when someone lowers my time. Its a lot of fun and some great trails. The navigation is challenging and makes this FKT fun as well. Overall I felt pretty slow today as a result of not tapering. It was hard from about mile 10 but I managed to keep going.
