We started at 18:30 to avoid having too many people on the full circuit.
I created this circuit for the FKT many years ago… but when I first did it, it was just “for fun.” Many years later, I uploaded it to the FKT site.
Since Erin Ton set an interesting time, it made sense for us to try to beat it.
Flats are not our strong thing, and that was the challenge.
Chris was stronger than me that day and he ran really well on the flat sections. I had to put a lot of heart into it until Laguna de los Tres.
When we reached Torre, I finally got into my ultra-distance flow, and even though I couldn’t maintain the fastest possible pace, I felt like I could run forever. It had been many years since I felt that while running.
At Laguna Torre, we knew the record was ours. We intended to go sub-4 hours, but we had already accumulated a lot of volume, and in the end, the course became really tricky. Plus, nightfall caught us in the forest while descending toward El Chaltén, so for safety reasons, we decided to slow down a bit to at least achieve our primary goal: setting an absolute FKT.
