I ran this route as part of RunJMC’s Burnley Way Ultra and Off Road Marathon, taking in the full route starting and finishing from Finsley Gate Wharf. The event was a cosy affair with only 4 competitors in the ultra category! Nevertheless it was a great day out in the sunshine and hope the event draws further momentum in future years.
For future attempts I recommend a decent recce as some of the original footpaths on the route are closed or overgrown. The GPX trace is the current best route I have found to negotiate these.
My thanks go to Jamie McIlvenny for organising the event and for the staff at the 3 checkpoints, and to Becca Chapman and Dom Leckie for their moral support along the way - timed well with the rainbow appearing whilst descending Thievely Pike. No pot of gold was discovered in Walk Mill, maybe the next completionist will be more lucky!
