Following the lead of Brynn and Andrew’s efforts I ran this trail unsupported northbound. Starting off with the climb up from the southern terminus was no joke, but it became much more runnable by mile 3. I was a fan of the unseasonably cool temps in the 50s, but the rainy weather this week definitely made the trail slick and muddy. That said, I am grateful that I only encountered a handful of downed trees and overall trail conditions were rugged, but well maintained and marked. I wasn’t sure what to expect having never hiked or run this trail before, but it has immediately become one of my favorite trails in Maryland. I hope to come back and run this trail again in the southbound direction, because I definitely think this would shave off a chunk of time. That said, I think there should definitely be a separate FKT designation for an effort in that direction. Also saw an albino raccoon on this run, which was really cool.
