Went about as smoothly as expected! Enjoyed dry trails and cool temperatures up to Weedon at 31k (previous FKTs on the route having dealt with far boggier conditions). The trail does seem to deteriorate a bit from there, with the odd ploughed field, rough farmland, and a mammoth count of stiles and gates taking its toll (or maybe it was just my legs). Had half an eye on sub 4:15 when I reached the first canal stretch with 9k to go, but struggled to get the legs going on the gentle climb up to Aston Clinton. Satisfying route being able to see most of the ‘ring’ from many points, and passing through a nice collection of picturesque villages.
Kudos to Alf and Hugh for establishing times on the route in horrendous underfoot conditions! Still plenty of time to be had out there ...
