We started thursday at 6:10 from Skullerud where the trail starts. The day was warm and humid (for norwegian conditions) and we started sweating from the early hours.
First 37km run trough technically demanding terrain that drained our brains from energy. However we managed to keep steady pace according to what we had planned before.
Happily for us the boat crossing went smooth and gave us some rest. The other side of lake Øyeren turned out to be even more wild but less technically demanding.
We cruised forward, taking brakes more and more often as heat waves started to really wear us down. In addition few last weeks had been exeptionally dry for this part of the year which effected in no creeks or running water. We had to ask in households along the way to fill up our water containers.
At around 50km good part of the trail follows dirt roads which was good and long waited change to technical single trails.
Trail went on and we continued as the day started to turn to evening. Norwegian summers at this part of the years are full of light but suddenly at km 90 the weather started to shift toward rainclouds and showers. Having no headlamps (why should we?it is summer right?) and considering that last 8km to Grenseloserne Museum follows through deep forrest we made a decision to finish our run at swedish border. Few minutes after we got into the car heavy rain started pouring and the forrest went in dark mode. Good decision though. Maybe next time?
A beautiful route through stunning nature, endless forests, lakes and silence.
