Great weekend run with my pup alongside off-leash. The beach was packed with people and dogs. Wind was around 8 mph blowing SSW. I started on the sand at Ocean Beach (across from Beach Chalet) moving south, when the tide was at around 3.5 - 4 ft. I was able to reach Muscle Rock Beach unobstructed. I ran on the sand the whole time until I hit the very north end of Ocean Beach. Unfortunately, the tide was too high (around 3.3 ft) for me to pass to Sutro Baths on the sand. Like the mixed gender fkt team, I took an alternate, going up Cliff House and then descending down to Sutro Baths. The trails to Sutro Baths were a bit confusing and I lost a good amount of time figuring out how to get down and back out.
A few thoughts for future attempts:
1. Make sure to check the tides and only run at low tide, preferably <1 ft. Two segments of this run is frequently obstructed at high tide: a) a small segment between Thornton and Muscle Rock Beach; b) the north end of Ocean Beach leading to Sutro Baths.
2. Consider running bare foot, if your feet allow it. My feet bled like crazy with the sand grating against my skin in shoes. At the very least, wear longer socks to block out sand.
3. Maybe run at less popular times. Weaving around the people and dogs was a little stressful.
All in all, an amazing run and amazing memories.
