I traveled down to the Berryman Campground on Friday March 13 with my dog Finn. I always sleep well in the camper. Saturday morning I got up early, made some coffee and had a big breakfast. I took my time getting ready to go as it was pretty chilly out. I packed two .5L bottles of water with LMNT and brought two SiS Go energy gels. I had a Gu 10 minutes before starting. I headed out on the trail CW like I did last time. The first several miles went by fast. Most miles were in the low 7's. Excellent conditions on the trail with 40 degrees, flowing trail, and solid dry footing. I drank my first bottle and had my first SiS Gel around mile 12. Past a group of trail runners at the Brazil creek crossing. One of them recognized me from the KT82 relay race. Started slowing down around mile 15. Still felt strong but I feel like the trail gets a little more technical with some chunky rocks that could easily cause a rolled ankle. Next time I'm going to try CCW so I can hit the rocks earlier. I had my next Gel around mile 19 and sipped on my second bottle between mile 16 and 22. Started feeling the pace around mile 22, but never had to walk or power hike. I finished well, got changed, and headed back out on the trail with Finn for a walk to enjoy the perfect weather that had climbed into the 60's. We hung out for the day and camped that night as well before heading back to St. Louis Sunday morning. I'm sorry that Todd couldn't join me this time around.
