I started where the end of the Capital Trail meets the canal walk. I could not tell if the trail technically ends at Shiplock Park (mile marker 51.2, which is the end on the Capital Trail website), so I ran .7 of a mile from the canal walk to ensure I had covered the distance. I refilled my hydration pack with water bottles I had stashed the day prior around mile marker 28 and the Herring Creek Trailhead. I finished at the 0 mile marker in Williamsburg at the Jamestown Settlement.
This is a great trail to run if you want some time alone. The day before my run I hid some water bottles and a small bottle of Coke near the Herring Creek Trailhead, which worked out great (except for the part where I spilled all the water that was still in my pack when I was refilling it). It was raining for the first 3 hours of my run, so it was less populated in Richmond area the usual. The miles close to Jamestown Settlement (mile 0) were more populated. There were a few port-a-pottys, but all bathrooms at parks were closed.
