A controlled burn on the north rim meant unique views of the valley above the smoke layer, which greeted me at the top of the hard climbing about four miles in. I was hoping to average 12:00s on the way up, but miles 2 & 3 remain really tough for me. I have a renewed respect for those who can climb Four Mile in under 50 minutes, let alone in the lower 40s.
My goal was to run under 1:30, and by pushing it on the downhill I was able to just sneak under. Splits and paces of interest:
Up - 57:05 (12:38 avg)
Down - 32:13 (7:08 avg)
There’s a good chunk of time left on the table for this FKT. I think the big dogs could climb in under 40 and descend in under 30, making under 1:10 a proud effort. Maybe we’ll even see it go under an hour one day.
