Great day for the Grayslake Distance Project! Started at the north terminus at Lovell Ln, finished at the south terminus at W State Line Rd where the Badger State Trail turns into the Jane Adams Trail at the IL/WI border. Dane Christiansen (greatest runner in Westlake Christian Academy history) attempted this with us but ran into some debilitating knee and GI issues in Monroe. 33.5 miles of work for Dane made for a valiant effort and certainly helped the team a ton. Ironman Johnny Wong biked with us, carrying water and food. We did walking aid stations with him every 4 miles. Sara Kaiser and trusty canine crew mate, Aspen, drove North to South, meeting us at miles, 12, 22, and 33. They provided integral crew support as well. Overall, an incredible team effort and a fun time bonding with good friends.
Boyle and I attempted this back on 12/17/2022. We completed the trail in 4-6 inches of snow much slower than record time with Johnny providing some car crew support. We vowed to be back for redemption. "Some day" is today.
