I tackled this route in the midst of my peak training block for Tor des Geants.  I started off at Buck Ridge a little after 6am in the fading darkness, carrying 3L of fluids and over 2,500 calories.

The weather was decent for August, starting in the 60s and finishing around 80 degrees with moderate humidity.  I refilled a BeFree bottle on the Cedar Run climb, bought supplies at Skyland Ranch, and refilled water at Pinnacles.  I ran solo the entire time with no assistance other than what I purchased at Skyland and the water fountain at Pinnacles.

I ran the route clockwise, leaving Crusher and Leading Ridge for the end.  These were certainly challenging climbs on tired legs, especially Leading Ridge after 37 miles of running.  It was not the optimal route setup for speed, but it worked best for a self-supported effort given the resupply timing at Skyland at Pinnacles.

Overall, it was a great day in the Shenandoahs.  I hope that more people come out to tackle this route and explore these amazing trails!
