We drove to Old Town House Park in South Yarmouth, about 0.7M east of the FKT starting point. The restrooms were closed for the season (here and everywhere else along the trail), but there was a port-a-potty on the parking lot that was open and maintained.
I took off with 2 bottles and 2 gels in my belt, and my wife and her mom drove to Orleans (around the 18mile point) where they rented e-bikes. After a 0.7M warm-up to the starting point I turned around and it was on. I was planning a 40-mile run, hoping to continue at a solid pace after completing the rail trail. But, of course, I ran faster than planned basically from the first mile and decided to focus on just the rail trail fkt and make new plans after I finished that section. Like any rail trail in the spring, there were sections with more or less runners, dog walkers and cyclists out. Busy roads are crossed with under- or overpasses, the other crossings were all fairly quiet and only at the crossing in Orleans I probably should have waited for cars to pass. My crew had started riding south from the bike rental and I met them at mile 15 with fresh bottles and gels. Great running, fairly uneventful for the next 12 miles. There was another port-a-potty at the end, but otherwise most facilities, bike rental places and ice cream shops seemed to be closed for the season. The north terminal of the CCRT at Lecount Hollow Rd will probably not be the terminal much longer as the construction of a continuation seems near completion, I didn’t check how long it kept going or how much more work it still needed. Instead, we turned onto Lecount Hollow Rd towards the beach, 1 mile down the road. After taking some pictures in the cold wind at the beach we headed back to the CCRT, took another break and then I ran the 9 miles back to the bike rental place.
