This is one to do in the winter… the humidity was already killing me in the warmup so I just locked in to the pace I needed to get the FKT by a minute. The trail has a bit of classic rail trail and city sidewalk/traffic, but it’s actually a lot of singletrack. My wife and daughter took the ferry to St George to meet me. 91% humidity and felt like 90f by the time I finished… carried 2 liters of water and still had to ration it.
I ran West to East, which is the opposite direction of previous records. I was there on a cruise, so I had to run about 4 miles to the start from Royal Dockyard and noticed that the official route cuts off about a mile of the official trail on the West end. Cleaning this up would pretty significantly change the distance of the route, so if someone were to do this again, I'd suggest a new "ferry to ferry" variation of the route - run from the Dockyard ferry stop to the St George ferry stop. This would be about 27 miles total and include the whole 23 mile trail. It just seems easier logistically because you can easily take the ferry right back to where you started.
