Report

I set out Saturday morning, May 15, 2021 from the Ocean Springs side of the Biloxi Bay Bridge around 6:20 am with the "UV Extreme forecasted" sun rising at my back.  Winds called for 5-10mph ESE.  I had my Black Diamond vest packed out with Spring Energy gels, Honey Stinger wafflers, (2) 17 oz soft flasks and a half Powerade zero in tow.  With my mind set on an unsupported effort, I also carried my cell phone and a credit card in case things went side ways.  Lastly, with my running origin story starting with soft sand repeats on these beaches as a senior in high school, I also carried a solidified "why" with me.  This route has meaning to me and I couldn't help with each step being increasingly grateful for the range and ability to take in the coast in this manner.  The route lends itself to being able to mostly turn off any concern or worry for traffic.  The only exception to this comes right past the 3.5 mile mark where the I110 North loop intersects with Hwy 90.  I had no issues navigating this intersection just a note for future attempters.  Things went smoothly, I faced little adversity mentally or physically through the first 25 miles or so. Around the 25 mile mark, with almost no fluid left and the heat starting to intensify I started to struggle some and briefly considered popping into the gas station at the Pass Christian Harbor.  I ultimately thought better of it and kept moving, ultimately sacrificing on pace but hanging on to an unsupported effort.  I walked briefly for the first time, right before the first small bridge that begins crossing into Bay St. Louis.   After crossing the first small bridge, I began to get some relief from the wind coming off the Bay and could literally see the end in sight.  I kept it moving from there, struggling to fight off a smile and sense of satisfaction of getting it done - unsupported.
