Caught the earliest train I could to Liphook carried everything I need from start to finish only topping up water at Heyshott as others before me had mentioned.
I had intentions of running a sub 6 hour (elapsed time) on this route. It was going well despite some slippery and boggy sections. I ran within myself for the first 25km and managed to be ahead of target pace knowing that the climb out of Heyshott would be tricky.
In the back of my mind I had the runnable section from just before Chichester though to West Wittering (last 24km ish) as where I could stretch the legs and build on my time…it turned out to be the hardest part of the route. I struggled with the monotony and being able to see so far ahead and it ate away at my mindset.
Nearing 50km a concerned lady was yelling at me to turn around as the path was closed ahead. Stopping to work out a re-route cost me more time and the struggle wore on forcing me to dig deep to continue with any resemblance of momentum as I faced the last km’s with a head wind.
Watched stopped under 6 hours but it’s the elapsed time that counts. Not sure I’ll be back to try again.
