Route: Hood Canal Traverse

The Hood Canal Traverse begins at The Salmon Center at Lynch Cove, the channel's far southeastern tip, and continues west twenty miles along Highway 106 to Great Bend before heading north along Route 101 for forty-one miles then Highway 104 and Highway 19 to the northern terminus at Tala Point where the channel meets Puget Sound. 

Carved by receding glaciers 13,000 years ago and flanked by Olympic National Park, Hood Canal is the second largest fjord in the continental U.S. (trailing only Puget Sound). Hood Canal is world famous for its oysters, kelp forests, and vital salmon highways that have sustained southern resident orcas for millennia.
