The Longs Peak Picnic is an adventure "triathlon" conceived by Tatiana Kennedy and Daniel Peterson, involving cycling from Boulder, CO to the Longs Peak trailhead, swimming across the frigid Chasm Lake, navigating to the summit of Longs Peak, and then reversing it back to the starting point in Boulder.
This route was partly inspired by the popular 'Grand Teton Picnic', a route between Jackson, WY and the summit of the Grand Teton, similarly involving cycling, swimming, and running/low fifth class climbing.
As it was established, the Longs Peak Picnic involves a ~38 mile bicycle ride from the northern Boulder city limit sign to the Longs Peak trailhead, ~4 mile trek to Chasm Lake, ~500 yard swim across Chasm Lake (E-W), and ~2 mile climb up Camel's Gully (3rd class) and Cables Route (5.4 YDS) before doing it all again in reverse, including swimming back across Chasm Lake (W-E).
The route welcomes additional creativity and fun, like taking a different route to the summit of Longs Peak (e.g., the Diamond), but all attempts should cross Chasm Lake twice, once before summiting and once after.
