Description

I've been dreaming of a mountain picnic up in the Adirondacks since I've heard of the Grand Teto picnic. I started searching around for picnics in our area on the East Coast and found none! So I dreamed up this route and put it all together. This route begins in Saranac Lake, New York. Right outside the Hotel Saranac on Berkeley Green is the Saranac Lake 6er bell. Begin your ride at that point and follow the route all the way to the ADK Heart Loj which sits right next to Heart Lake. From the Loj you can see the water go straight down the path to the waters edge where a little beach greets you. Swim directly across the lake and get out the other side where a little trail puts you back on the main trail. Follow the main trail around the lake and all the way to Marcy Dam. After Marcy Dam take the trail directly to the summit of Mt. Marcy. Have your picnic up on the summit turn around and reverse everything.

This is a triathlon effort in principle so plan gear and wear accordingly. A tri suit to go from bike to swim with minimal changing is recommended and a dry bag for the swim to bring hiking/running equipment for the hike up and down Mt. Marcy. Check out the lake are for stashing bike and other gear not need for the following section.

Missed the window to complete it last season but definitely going to attempt next summer! Hope it can inspire some people, going to attach a more detailed doc explaining the plan.
