ASCENT: 1hr 23min 41sec , CAR-TO-CAR: 2hr 9min 7sec

On May 31st, 2020, I ascended Mt. Hood from the climbers parking lot at timberline to the summit in a time of 1hr 23min 41sec, besting Jason Dorais' ascent time of 1hr27min. I hit the lap button on my watch when I reached the summit.

It would be great to split off the ascent times into their own category as going for the ascent time versus round trip time can be two totally different objectives.

I went car-to-car in 2hr 9min 7sec. This is not the overall car-to-car FKT as Jason did it in 1hr44min on skis, but it is the FKT for 'on foot' as far as I can tell.

I have put a mini trip report and some more details of the day in my Strava activity description [copied below].

The way up went pretty well. First bit was a bit slushy then firmed up about 1000 ft up. Pearly Gates didn't have any steps and were quite icy but it wasn't that big of deal on the way up.

The way down was a different story. I COMPLETELY botched the decent. I had to back my way down the gates, trying to front point with no points, and in doing so I didn't look down enough and took the wrong chute down which made the downclimb long and absolutely ridiculous. Took it real slow and got some fat knuckles trying to punch into the ice. It wasn't all that fun. Finally got down to hogsback where I could face downhill and get back trying to go quick only to find some pretty unfun conditions awaited. The ice crust had melted just enough to offer the perfect punch through every couple steps. Then while trying to say hi to some nice folks I took a spill and did my best to self arrest with my hand... Absolutely shredding it. I slog hobbled my way back to the parking lot.

All in all, jazzed to get the ascent record. I really wanted that sub 2 round trip and think it's very doable. I'll be back for it at some point but for now, on to new missions!

Started and ended on the North end of the climbers parking lot at the beginning of the climbers trail with both two feet on the pavement. Hit the lap button on my watch when I reached the summit.

Stoked and massive thanks to all the people behind this website!
