Location
Switzerland
Distance
150 km
Vertical Gain
6,200 m
Description

The route combines iconic hiking trails  "99 - Weg der Schweiz" (https://www.schweizmobil.ch/en/hiking-in-switzerland/routes/route-099.html?noFilter, 35km / 1400m) and "98 - Waldstätterweg" (https://www.schweizmobil.ch/en/wanderland/routen/route-098.html, 115km / 4800m) for a complete circumnavigation of the four arms of Lake Lucerne. The trail offers scenic views, combines technical trails and lakeside promenades, and leads past places steeped in history such as Rütli, the founding place of the original Swiss Confederacy, and the Tellsplatte. While starting point and direction of the route are irrelevant, it should include the start/end point of the hiking trails at Rütli (it's a 3.3km / 225m extra loop if the route starts anywhere else).

Comments

I will be attempting this route on Saturday 7 Nov 2020, starting and finishing in Lucerne (near the station) after a counterclockwise loop. Attempt will be either unsupported (if I can find enough drinking water points along the way) or self supported if I have to buy any additional food or drink along the way. Expected start time around 11am local time.
