I started out at Rushmere on the edge of Ipswich just after 7am. The start of the course is very pleasant and very picturesque at Martlesham Creek and Woodbridge along the river.
Next came the forests of Rendlesham and Tunstall - with exposed energy sapping sandy pig fields in between. I arrived at Snape Maltings in pretty good shape.
The next stage linking to the back of Thorpeness took it's toll with little cover from the sun. Then on past Sizewell power plant with more shingle than I would have liked.
Every village pub I passed was full of people enjoying the sunshine and relaxing with cold beers, the Eels Foot at East ridge was particularly tempting.
By now continuous running was out of the window and I took on a strategy of walking and jogging within each mile - trying to keep the overall mile times down as much as possible.
I was not used to carrying nearly so much in terms of supplies and struggled to rearrange my pack to be comfortable. I consumed 4.5 litres of Tailwind, 5 chocolate pancakes and 2 energy gels. I did not manage to eat any of the pecans which I took.
The last 20 miles was really tough, if more comfortable I would have enjoyed the the scenery at Minsmere and Dunwich.
I was elated to catch sight of the footbridge from Walberswick to Southwold and it warranted a photo!
The last 2 miles were finally enjoyable again as the end was in sight.
