Today I ran the Ruby Crest Trail, a stunning 37-mile route in Eastern Nevada! I was supported by my wife, who hiked up on the course to support me with food and body maintenance items during different phases of the run. There was still about 10-15% snow coverage on the route, most notably on all of the mountain passes. It led to slow-moving and a lot of route finding, which cost me a significant amount of time. My goal time for today was 6 hours, and I was on pace through the first half, which was snow free. Unfortunately, as the snow got heavier up above 9500’ elevation, it became considerably harder to navigate and find the route quickly. I brought a filter and there are well-spaced creeks and lakes throughout most of the run, with one 10-mile section that is the exception. I will be back to go sub-6 hours when the route is snow free!
