The Condor Trail was very tough, but very rewarding! I have been wanting to do this for over 6 years and after 2 wet years in a row followed by one dry one (this year), it was shaping up to be the perfect time to do it. Of course, it didn't rain at all the month of February, but rained and snowed on 6 or 7 days of my hike over the first 3 weeks of March. This made it tougher on my feet than expected, but if anything pushed me to continue hiking. No point in waiting around for the rain to stop! I buried myself 4 resupply buckets where the trail crossed roads. My partner also very lovingly met me at Manzana Schoolhouse with my food for the dreaded "La Brea Triangle" section. This trail combines existing trails, forest roads, paved road, cattle trails, old ranch roads, and several off-trail or historic trail sections. Some parts were a breeze to knock out 25 miles. Other parts took an entire day to do 12. The terrain really is boss out there. If this route had a trail the entire way, it would be the best hike in the world. Some highlights include: epic views of storms clearing, varied weather I had not yet experienced in the Los Padres, ice cold swimming holes, so much green, newts, perfect Big Sur coastal views, rugged peaks, clear creeks, and the feeling of accomplishment.
