Description

The Condor Trail spans the north to south extent of the Los Padres National Forest in Coastal Central California. The southern terminus is at Lake Piru along the border of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. The northern terminus is at Botchers Gap Campground within Monterey County. The trail is approximately 400 miles in length and can be done in a few months time, or completed in sections over many years. Experienced hikers are able to hike most of the trail but it will require some advanced route finding and bushwhacking.

There are several resources dedicated to the Condor Trail, including the main Condor Trail website: http://www.condortrail.com/, as well as Brian Sarvis's book, the "Condor Trail Guide."   Brittany Nielsen completed the first successful thru-hike of the Condor Trail in 2015. There have been a handful of people that have completed the trail since then, with the most recent completion taking place in May 2022 by Matthew "Masochist" Hengst, who currently holds the FKT at around 29 days.
