We departed from the trailhead at the UKK gate (Lutontie 12) on Thursday 19th of June at 11:35 am. At 11:36 we got lost. There are a lot of trail junctions during the first few kilometers, but once out of the crowded area, route finding was quite straightforward. We mainly navigated using a GPS watch with the route, but additionally had an offline map on the phone (Maastokartat) as well as a paper map and compass.
Because of a bad ankle, we completed the FKT fully by walking and did not compromise on sleep during the two nights wild camping on the trail. Our daily distances were 48 km, 44 km and 62 km, finishing at 2:29 am on Sunday. The midnight sun made moving at night quite pleasant. We carried fastpacking gear and most of our initial pack weight came from food.
The temperature was 6-10°C during the day and 0-3°C at night. We didn't experience much rain, but the wind was chilly. Due to the cold nights, there were exceptionally few mosquitoes, except for some swarms in boggy places.
Due to the unsupported nature of the FKT and a rampant stomach flu outbreak in the park, we pitched our tent away from popular spots and maintained strict hygiene and water purification habits using Katadyn Micropur tablets. We had capacity for 1.5L water each and mostly filled 1L at a time.
