At 8am in the morning of 20th December 2024, I set out from Lawson train station carrying all my gear and equipment used for this FKT from start to finish at Medlow Bath train station for my 4th attempt at attaining the Overall FKT of Bruce's Walk East to West.
Having previously run just shy of Rachel Dimond's FKT time in my last attempt, I knew my game plan was to remain the same in this attempt and that I simply had to tweak some of the mistakes I made in my previous attempt such as overdosing on sodium and falling down of Mt Hay Rd trail. The key to success this time round was running the 'runnable' sections faster, remaining consisent on the technical ravines and creek crossings, not falling over and getting lost. Despite having rain for a couple of days beforehand and the track being more overgrown than I remember, I had enough experience from my last attempts to know where to push and where to hold back without overexerting myself or putting myself in a precarious situation where I could seriously hurt myself out there.
Although my legs started locking up as I climbed to the Katoomba Airstrip, failure was not an option and I prevailed through adversity to arrive at Medlow Bath train station just after 11:16am and a personal best of over 4 minutes from my previous attempt just over a year ago. After 18 months and 4 attempts, I finally had achieved the Fastest Known Time I was looking for in Bruce's Walk East to West. I look forward to returning here to complete the West to East traverse and one day, an out and back variation of the track.
