Tossed this in the middle of a road trip as I move out to Durango. My partner dropped me at the TX border and picked me up at the KS border. If you're having a friend help with transportation, that's super nice but also tell your friend that the panhandle is boring as hell so you don't ruin your friendship / lose your ride.
Started at ~8:50am
Route follows US 83 the whole way, felt very safe to run on despite the fact there are semis coming thru at 65 mph. There is always a super generous shoulder (like a whole extra lane) or a passing lane for cars to get over (very easy since is so freakin flat, you can see the cars coming from miles away). Doing this during a weekday at least, road was not busy.
There is only one natural water source along the route, about 19 miles in going nobo. Looks like a river on the map but the river is gross (at least in Oct). Got water here. You have to go maybe 100 yards off the hwy through thick scratchy grass. Bring a filter if this is your plan.
Views are BORING. Farm land the whole way, thought I might get chased by some farm dogs a few times but they seemed well trained to stay away from the road.
This route sucks I never want to walk/run on asphalt again or ever go back to Oklahoma.
