-3.6 ft tides today at noon. Just missed the new moon yesterday, but this was still one of the lowest tides of the year. 60s and cloudy. With the usual SSW breeze, there was a tailwind the entire way. Perfect.
I had attempted this route last year, but had called it at Edmonds due to underestimating how hard it would be run on seaweed and streams and barnacled rocks. This time I discovered another hazard, which is waterlogged holey sand that feels like quicksand. Had to curl my toes through it to stop it from sucking the shoe off my foot. Only encountered this quicksandy mud after the half way point, so I'm not sure if it's a phenomenon of when the tide comes in, or if it's the geography of the latter half of the route that causes this.
I brought 1.5L of water (drank most), 5 packs of chews (ate 3), and a tin of balm (re-greased the piggies once).
Got on to the sidewalk around Edmonds and Mukilteo ferries. Made sure to stop for a sec under the Edmonds ferry pier to look at the purple sea stars. I wasn't sure if people were allowed on the beach at Mukilteo ferry, so I stayed on the pavement until the north side of that parking lot.
My kind of a beach day.
