The route begins at the southern checkpoint of Cotopaxi National Park at 3:15 am, at an altitude of 3100 meters above sea level, in a counterclockwise direction. The weather is intense due to persistent rain throughout the early morning. The path heads west along the paved road at the park entrance for 4 km, until the route turns south toward the Mulaló sector. This initial stretch covers the first 13 km, skirting Mulaló and approaching the base of El Morro mountain.
At kilometer 26, just at sunrise, the first supply point is located. It is essential to carry enough food and water for at least 7 hours, as the next 39 km have no supply services. The route continues ascending toward El Morro, with a positive elevation gain of 1000 meters over 15 km, reaching 4200 meters above sea level. This area is characterized by cold and windy weather as you descend into the valley within Hacienda El Porvenir.
The path continues toward Yanahurco, where, around kilometer 64, you cross the entrance gate to Cotopaxi National Park. Here, in the Laguna de Santo Domingo sector, the second supply point is located, with 33 km remaining to the finish. From there, you follow the main park road until reaching the Manantiales sector, where the route diverts west toward Laguna de Limpiopungo, the location of the third supply point.
Finally, the main road is taken back toward the southern checkpoint, completing the last 15 km of the route. This section features a negative elevation change, and the final 8 km connect with the paved road until reaching the southern checkpoint of Cotopaxi National Park once again.
