Originally inspired by Martin Tonna many years ago i watched their "event" and have since wanted to do run the cape end to end. The timing was right also as i had registered and trained for the 100k Surf Coast Century ( Cancelled in Vic / Covid ) I had a 4 day window and the weather was right so I set off heading Nth at 7:30 am on the 29/09/20.
A couple of brief showers was good but the wind was relentless and not the ideal direction at WNW, a sight head wind. I refilled from taps along the way at Hamelin, Conto's, Margs, Gracetown , Mosses rock campsite and Yallingup, All public taps or toilet blocks with bore water, some requiring treating prior. The pack was 8kg total with 1.1 kg of tailwind, It also included lollies, snickers bars, chips and a sandwich. ( im a sweet tooth )
The track is far from a smooth trail and the beaches were minimal and soft given it’s the end of winter, start of spring. As night fell the temp cooled a little, that was nice. 2 headlights got me through the night and I finished at Cape Naturaliste lighthouse entrance gate at 3:34 am.
