An idea and goal that’s been cooking for a while. I believe I am the first to ever make this run. Carried all supplies with me (Nathan hydration vest with 2 liter bladder, 7 Gu gels, Vaseline, sunblock, portable USB charger with iPhone cable, toilet paper, 3 Nuun tabs, spare socks, shirt). Got perfect weather. Timed well for maximum time on low tide. Filled up on water at public Town beaches- EH Main Beach with hose, Hither Hills with bathroom sink faucet, and Ditch Plains with water fountain. After Ditch had to mostly walk 5 miles over loose large round stones. Was worried about injury. Took advantage of good sand when I found it. Big trade off of the day: Running firmer, sloped sand near the water vs. soft, flat, upland sand.
This one hurt bad towards the end. And felt so good most of the time. Awesome to see this whole shoreline in one go. Great to swim at the end. Chafing and blisters will take some time to heal. My wife Sarah and kids, Sadie and Easton, dropped me off at Shinnecock County Park East at 8:30am. I walked to the inlet for the start and met the biggest seal I have ever seen locally, looked like a walrus! I began my run at 8:41am and finished at Lake Montauk Inlet on the rocks at 5:38pm where Sarah and the kids were waiting for me. After I celebrated with them on the rocks with hugs and pictures, I swam in cold water for 5 minutes and we drove back home.
I look forward to someone else attempting this run and setting a new FKT. It is a run worth doing for shore. Enjoy the views!
