I ran the 1st loop as a discovery lap, and figured out a lot about this trail. Going clockwise from the parking area the first two miles are down to a creek bed that is fast, weaves and rolls through wooded areas and badland clay outcroppings. The next 3 miles puts a damper on pace with several climbs and the largest climbing right to the top of the upper plateau, so if you wonder if the trail leads off, no it goes up and up and up. Hard to imagine horses making this climb. Alltrail kept me on trail, as there were many intersecting trails, cow paths and lost trail through the clay and rocky sections. Petrified wood and beautiful views. The 2nd loop I put my phone away and kept moving, shaving 4 minutes of my 1st loop and finishing with a loop time of 00:00:53:32.
