I ran this for the first time soon after I moved to Idaho and it has remained a special place and route for me. While I've run it a number of times since, I had a chance to go back this weekend and push on it and came away with a time that's faster than anything I could find run by others. (Jeff Mogavero had run this in 4:38 in the clockwise direction, which isn't on the FKT site, but is on the Strava segment for that direction.)
My own editorial comment about this route: The Seven Devils loop is one of my favorite runs/routes in West-Central Idaho. It has similarities to some of the PNW volcano routes: it is an aesthetic loop following one trail around the northern portion of the Seven Devils range, encircling the highest peaks and alpine lakes in this incredibly beautiful range, with a different view around every corner. There is a variation that was posted on the FKT site a year after this classic version of the route was posted that includes the Dry Diggins Lookout spur. Dry Diggins is a world-class spot and worth a trip...but adding it to the Seven Devils route takes away from the truly aesthetic nature of the route. I hope some fast folks will come put up some good times on this classic route.
