Wow, this is a spectacular trail...doing it twice may not be twice as nice, but it certainly makes for an epic day in this special part of the U.S.  I recently moved to McCall, Idaho from Vermont and after doing lots of exploring and vert in Idaho over the summer, was looking for a big fall adventure within driving distance and the RCT came on my radar at the suggestion of a friend.  Without easy access to a car shuttle, I decided to do it twice (and also wanted something longer than a 100K to keep inching my way up in distance).  I started from Harrison Pass just after 5am on Saturday with all that I thought I'd need for around 20-22 hours (mostly two pounds of sour patch kids, a crushed bag of chips, and lots of maple lemonade).  Water was relatively easy to find along the way, and I was using a Katadyn BeFree to filter, minus a 10 mile stretch from around mile 20-30 going North.  As I got into the higher elevation part of the route, winds really started to pick up (30-40mph with 50mph gusts?), clouds were rolling in and keeping it very cool, and I was getting a bit concerned about my comfort in doing it again with a number of additional miles on my legs and a minimal kit of extra clothing.  I made the S to N crossing in around 8:25 [the Strava segment didn't click until after I unpaused my watch to start South again after a long break/come to Jesus moment :( ].  I decided I'd at least get back up to Liberty Pass to get a look at the clouds and get cell service to figure out a ride if I was going to bail.  The caffeine and food started to kick in and as I passed another runner headed North (whose crew had graciously offered me a ride if I decided to bail), I made a quick decision to go for it.  I'd come a long way and had plenty of time, and it appeared as though the clouds were dissipating a bit.  The return trip felt like a slog at times (around 10 hours), beautiful high speed headlamp shuffling at others.  Lots of cow, deer, and other unknown eyes as dark set in.  The miles ticked by slowly and the ATV road, which felt all uphill to start, felt like a disappointing equal mix of up and down to end.  I was chased by a few herding dogs in the last few miles for some excitement, and made it back to the car well under my goal of 20 hours and in time for a few celebratory sips of mediocre Idaho beer, and another few hours of fitful sleep at the trailhead.  I was excited to wake up in the morning with a voracious appetite after not being able to put much in through the day on Saturday.  I highly recommend this route...and there's plenty of time to be had.  I will be excited to go back and do the point to point at some point and hopefully some ski touring in the winter - its a truly awesome mountain range.  Thanks to Davy and Alex for paving the way.
