On Saturday June 27 I met Nicole Leger at Fundy National Parks Point Wolfe Campground in preparation to run the Fundy Footpath. At 3:18am on Sunday, June 28th we took off from Fundy National Park Headquarters in attempt to set the mixed gender unsupported FKT on the Footpath. It was the perfect day to trail run, not too hot, not too cold, dry trails and refreshing mist at points which is rare along the Fundy coastline. The ending was quite beautiful as thunder started to rumble just as we crossed the bridge at Big Salmon River and it started to rain just as we finished at the interpretive center. The weather seemed to reflect the emotions as it was a very emotional finish for Nicole which was very inspiring to see someone push their limits on a trail of this difficulty. Sharing stories of past adventures and future goals occupied each other enough to get the job done and made the attempt a success.

The Fundy Footpath is known to be one of the  most challenging backcountry hiking trails in Canada and North America and was listed as one of the top 50 hiking trails in the world in Explore Magazine so being from the Fundy region this trail has a special place close to my heart. It was very nice to see that volunteers had been out on the trail rerouting sections that have been washed away from the worlds highest tides and I hope that one day, with the help from our amazing trail community that the Fundy Footpath can be maintained back to world class shape.
