I set out to attempt the self-supported fastest known time on the official “Split Rock to Five Fathom (NB, Canada)” out and back route on December 21st, 2025 at 9:58am from the Split Rock trailhead. I wasn’t sure if the water sources would be frozen or not so before the attempt I placed a water bottle at Five Fathom parking lot as well as one at the Lorneville lighthouse. It was pouring rain for the majority of my run and the conditions were slippery, icy, wet and there were many trees fallen blocking the trail. I arrived at the finish with an elapsed time of 4hours 54minutes and 52seconds which made this a successful FKT attempt. Because there were many fallen trees I had gotten off of Troy’s Trail Costal and onto Troy’s Trail Inland therefore I needed to backtrack which added extra kilometres to the trip. With better conditions and possible support, I know I could shave a lot of time off this FKT. Special thanks to Explore Lorneville for maintaining these trails.
