This is one of the jewels of the foothill trails! Beautiful, remote in the interior; it is a backcountry experience in the foothills!
I live nearby and so was able to run in and stash an electrolyte/redbull mix at the Humbug Creek junction, but otherwise just carried a couple handrunners and 4 Spring energy gels. It was unseasonably cool; 37 degrees at the start and 55 at the finish, just perfect conditions.
I didn't have the best day but gritted my teeth and was able to sustain a pretty good pace (for me). There is still quite a bit of downed bushes and trees in the interior, turning the run into a giant interval workout; surging the runnable sections and then crawling through and around the obstructions! I will try it again next year, as i think with a little clearing (i am going to do some work on it as well this winter) and a good day, it can go sub-3 hours for sure.
Highly recommend this trail! Most of it is clear and the setting is so so beautiful.
