On Dec 1st 2024 I attempted the Prospect Park loop FKT. 16 loops of the park route for 53.97 miles.
I decided to complete this attempt as part of racing the Prospect Park Track Club's annual Endurance Fest 50 mile/50k race, which is comprised of 15 loops of the park for the 50 mile option. The goal was to then keep going to ensure the largest number of loops completed.
We started the event at 6am with cold but otherwise great weather. The race was a lot of fun and I saw many of my fellow club members cheering along the route. The race provided water and scratch at the start/finish area along with a "bring your own food item" table that had plenty of options. I stuck with the gels/pb&j/bars I had brought except for some Coke that provided a great boost on my last two laps. A friend, Adam, jumped in on my 12th loop and my wife, Carmen, ran with me on lucky loop 13 which got me through the toughest part of the race. After a "bonus" lap post-race, I needed to head home to eat/change as I had also signed up to volunteer for the last shift of the race! Watching the runners come in to the finish late in the evening (there is the same generous cut off time for both distances) after such an incredible effort was inspiring!
Looking forward to see the next successful attempt for this FKT in one of the most beautiful places to run in the city!
